Allestree Woodlands School Policy for Term Time Absence Requests
From 1st September 2013 and in accordance with The Education (Pupil Registration) (England) (Amendment) Regulations 2013, Allestree Woodlands will no longer authorise any leave of absence during term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
Family holidays in term time are disruptive and can seriously affect your child’s education. On average children who miss 17 or more days in a school year lose one full grade in their GCSE’s.
Parents/Carers are not entitled to remove their children from school in term time for a holiday. All applications for leave of absence must be made on the school’s application form and Mr A Brady, Head Teacher, will decide whether or not the absence, a maximum of five school days, should be authorised. Parents/Carers will receive a response in writing from the school informing them whether or not the request has been authorised. (NB parents are advised NOT to book holidays before receiving authorisation of their holiday request from school).
The following examples are NOT classed as exceptional circumstances:
Due to external exams, no leave will be granted under any circumstances for Years 10 and 11 during the months of January to June.
Parents or carers who take their children on holiday without permission risk a fixed penalty of up to £120 (per parent, per child) if paid within 28 days. This amount can be reduced to £60 if paid within 21 days.Click HERE to download the Leave of Absence Request Form
